The instruction manual for the cassette player/recorder is lacking, and it took some trial and error to figure out the correct sequence for making a recording from cassette tape to USB flash drive. Here are the steps I use to successfully make a cassette-to-USB recording:

1) Switch the USB/Off-Tape switch to Off-Tape.
2) Insert an empty USB flash drive formatted to FAT32 in the USB slot, ensuring it is secure.
3) Press Play to start the cassette tape playing.
4) Immediately press the USB Square button until the green Record light flashes continuously. It may take a few tries to get this to happen.
5) Note the USB flash drive flashing as it records from the cassette tape.
6) When finished, Stop the cassette tape from playing.
7) Press the USB Square button to stop recording, indicated by the light no longer flashing.
8) The USB flash drive will now contain an MP3 recording in a directory named AB_REC as AUX0001.MP3. Subsequent recordings will be named AUX0002.MP3, and so on.

I rated this unit 4 out of 5 because I had to figure out the recording sequence myself, but the recording quality is excellent for the price, so I still gave it a high rating.

The recorder functioned adequately, but the instructions for recording from tape to USB were incomplete and did not work as stated. Luckily, another buyer on seller provided a detailed and helpful set of directions in their review of the RipTunes machine.

I was able to successfully convert cassette tapes to mp3 files using this unit. First, I plugged a thumb drive into the USB port and set the USB or OFF/TAPE switch to OFF/TAPE. Then, I pressed the PLAY button to start playing a tape and held down the USB record button. The small green LED RECORD light started flashing, indicating that it was recording. After stopping the recording, I plugged the thumb drive into my computer and found the mp3 files in a folder on the drive. I was thrilled to be able to digitally back up some irreplaceable recordings of my parents from cassette tapes. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

I recently purchased a converter and successfully transferred my old Christmas music cassettes to a USB thumb drive. I then imported the music to iTunes and added album info. The quality is great considering the cassettes are almost 40 years old. However, I ran into a problem when trying to play the music on my iPod, as iTunes only supports MP4 files now. I found a free online converter to change the files from MP3 to MP4 and now my music plays on all my devices. I learned a lot about file types through this process.

The instructions for transferring music from a cassette tape to a USB drive are not very clear. Here are some simplified instructions to make the process easier.

1) Insert a USB drive into the port.
2) Put the cassette tape into the player.
3) Press ���Pause��� and then ���Play��� on the cassette player to initialize the USB drive. If the drive has a light, it will blink for a few seconds. If not, wait for 10-15 seconds.
4) After the USB drive initializes, press the USB Play/Rec button until the USB/REC light blinks. Now you are recording.
5) Release the ���Pause��� button on the cassette recorder to start playing the cassette.
6) The USB will record an mp3 of the cassette tape until you press ���Stop��� or the tape finishes playing.

I received mixed reviews about this product, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I had trouble converting cassettes to mp3 using the USB. The directions instructed me to start the cassette and then push the play/record button on the MP3 to start recording. The green light next to the USB buttons should stay lit while recording. However, the light on my device never turned on, and there was no record button on the USB, only a play button. When I pushed the USB play button while the cassette was playing, the audio stopped but the cassette kept playing. Pushing stop or play on the USB caused the audio to come back, with the cassette playing the entire time. I followed both the included manual and a reviewer's instructions, but still couldn't get it to work. It seems that the current units do not have a record/play button for the USB controls and do not convert to mp3. I wish I had paid attention to the most recent reviews that mentioned this issue.

After initially feeling disappointed and frustrated with this item, I was about to give up on it completely. However, instead of asking for a refund, I decided to request a replacement and I'm glad I did. The replacement worked perfectly and exceeded my expectations. This device far surpasses others I've used in terms of ease of use and sound quality. It has allowed me to salvage many of my old audiobooks on cassette that I had almost given up on. I'm grateful that I decided to give this product a second chance.

The item seems well-built and works as expected, but the instructions for copying a cassette directly to the USB are incorrect. I had to figure it out on my own after not hearing back from tech support. You need to press play first and then press and hold the USB button until it flashes. Also, wait until the tape's leader has passed the playback head before pressing the USB rec button. The instructions and manufacturer support are less than helpful, so I give it three stars.

This item is simple to use and more durable than the previous one I bought. I have old cassettes with recordings of my late grandpa, grandma, mom, aunts, cousins, and sister. This product works so easily and is unlike any other on I previously tried a similar walkman looking recorder and it made odd noises. The software it used was not seamless and kept losing connection. It was a disaster. I had a similar experience with a recorder two years ago, and the process took too long and then it broke. So I returned it. But this new one is amazing. I am halfway through transferring my cassettes and it is so much easier. The quality of recordings is fine and can be improved in Adobe software. But overall, it is just so much easier. Wow!

I recently used this item to transfer my old band rehearsal and demo tapes to MP3. The product works as advertised, but the User's Guide instructions for Recording from Tape to USB are incorrect. Step 3 should come before Step 2 - you should press the Play button first and then press the Record button next to the USB port. It seems to only work when the tape leader has passed the play head, so press the Record button several times after pressing the Play button until the Record button light comes on (flashing red).

UPDATE: After using the product for a few days, I am quite satisfied. Converting tape cassettes is routine once you get the button sequence right. MP3 files are saved at 128 kbps, using roughly 1 MB of storage per minute. The sound quality is acceptable, especially considering that my cassette tapes were produced from a variety of sources, including other cassette tapes. Thumbs up!

I bought the Riptunes Digital Cassette Recorder to transfer old cassette tapes to digital format. I plan to gift copies to family members who are on the recording. I bought this item specifically to transfer cassette tapes to thumb drives. The tapes played well and the sound quality was good, but I couldn't successfully copy them to any thumb drive, despite trying multiple ones. The indicator light on the player showed that the copying process was happening, but when I checked the thumb drives afterwards, there was nothing on them at all.
