Review of a Unique Bluetooth Speaker
Review by Kaz / (Posted on 5/4/2024)
Reviewing this speaker was a bit challenging as it differs from most Bluetooth speakers I've tried. The midrange is impressive, the highs aren't piercingly annoying, and the bass is commendable for its size. Here are some notes from my testing: - All testing was done using audio streamed via Bluetooth from a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra using Tidal on the highest settings for all tracks. - Best sound quality tests were conducted at 2/3 volume level via Bluetooth. - The perceived sound quality of this speaker seems highly dependent on the music being played back. Positives: - It's loud, with more than enough power to fill a large bedroom or living room; you can feel it moving air. - The midrange and highs are clear and pleasant, even at higher levels, without being obnoxious. - It handles classical music extremely well, as long as it doesn't dip into the lows too far. - An excellent solution for limited space when you need better sound than your TV can output. - Bluetooth pairing is effortless with devices from Windows, iOS, and Android; I had zero issues. - Features include a USB-A port for thumb drives, USB-C rechargeable capability, micro SD card slot, line-in, metal speaker mounts, and single-piece metal front/top/back with attractive wood-grain effect plastic sides. - Simple top buttons are easy to use for controlling the speaker. - Supports dual-speaker playback, allowing two units to be paired to the same audio source. Music Tests: - While this speaker has more bass than similar-sized ones I've tried, it's nowhere near as "deep" as advertised. - It struggles with tracks like Daft Punk's "Musique," where the changing/sweeping bass/mid parts get lost and sound muddy at anything but low volume. - However, it handles Daft Punk's "Around the World" acceptably at about 2/3 volume without distortion. - X Ambassador's "Hold You Down" loses some impactful bass, but still sounds good. - Earth, Wind & Fire's "Let's Groove" is reproduced respectfully, despite not having hard-hitting bass. - It handles Lindsey Stirling's tracks extremely well, even at high volumes, without distorting. - Claude Debussy's "Claire de Lune" sounds great cranked up, capturing the nuances of the piano. Overall: Listening to this speaker is very pleasant over long periods, even at high volume. It handles midrange and highs far better than any other Bluetooth speaker I've tested in the sub-$150 range. However, it's not suitable if you're looking for strong bass; at high volumes, the bass becomes muddy or lacks presence. In Conclusion: At the regular price of $179.99, there are better options available. But if you can get it for the current $129.99 with the $10 coupon, bringing it down to $119.99, I'd highly recommend it.

    Riptunes Bookshelf Ultra Bluetooth Speaker
Review by MC / (Posted on 4/26/2024)
Here's a speaker I appreciate for a couple of reasons. First, it boasts a clean, retro look that blends in with any space while adding a touch of style. Second, it produces clean, high-quality sound. Many companies overstate their products' bass capabilities, but this speaker delivers moderate bass that enhances the overall sound without overpowering it. Positioning it in a corner or on an angle can further improve the bass response. It provides a pleasant listening experience with nice mids and clear highs, making it perfect for relaxing mornings. With 80 watts of power, it can easily fill a room, allowing you to enjoy music with clarity.
